This workshop is for people who have never played the NAF before and for the ones who have been playing on their own but don’t feel very confident. It is not necessary to know music in advanced as it is a very simple instrument and easy to play. This beginner workshop is an introduction to the Native American flute and the main objective is to get familiar with the instrument. The workshop is quite practical but you will also learn about its origins, the way it works and its benefits. Not many techniques will be taught as there will be a second level for those who want to progress and learn more. You will still be able to improvise some music at the end of the session.
Things that we will cover during the workshop:
This workshop is for the ones who attended my beginner workshop and wish to learn more. People who attended other beginner workshops or have been learning from online resources are also welcome. Most probably you will have your own flute at this stage but if you are hiring one of my flutes, you can still use it at this workshop. For this level, the main focus is playing the flute and no so much time will be spent talking about this instrument. You will also have plenty of opportunities to ask questions and clear any doubts that you may have. There will be more techniques in this workshop but easy enough for everybody.
The contents of this workshop are:
The groups are small, with a maximum of 10 people. The workshop lasts for 4 hours and it is usually at the weekends, held once or twice a month. The venue can be different each time but always within easy access by public transport. Basic flutes will be available to borrow on the day but bring your own flute if you have one. It is possible to purchase one of these flutes for £85. You will also learn about opportunities to buy a higher quality flute in person and online.
After the workshop, you will receive a manual by email and links to useful websites and YouTube videos to help you in your practice. It is recommended to subscribe to my mailing list to be updated of future workshops and events. If possible, do it before the workshop so you can download my free guide about NAF and read it beforehand. You can also join the flute circle that I have created in Bristol, where you will be able to play with others. The flute circle is on Facebook.

If you prefer to have individual lessons I can also teach you for the number of hours you wish. The classes can be in person (mainly in Bristol) or online.

"The beginner workshop held by Aiyana was awesome. A great insight into playing the Native American flute, especially for someone with no musical background. I learnt lots of techniques, was encouraged to express my sound and skills in the practice and its great that you can rent the flute after to further your sound journey. "
"Had a lovely beginners Native American Flute workshop with Aiyana. She's a wonderful teacher and really packed in the information and various ways to play the flute, both technically and intuitively. Really liked how she also sent supplementary information, with notes and instructional videos to practice at home! It's also really nice how she would like to build a flute and Native American sound healing community in Bristol, so that we can all play together and commune with nature in the warmer months. Highly recommend her workshop."
"I love workshops like this where there is a good balance of structure and self expression, in that we each in turn were provided with an opportunity to play from our hearts. During the workshop Aiyana encourages you to overcome your anxieties about playing in front of others and to “just have a go”. I have to say everyone did well, and I surprised myself with melodic tunes that I was playing by the end of the day. I have to say I fallen in love with this instrument even more since working with Aiyana in her flute workshop. It has greatly inspired me to practice more and I feel more confident as I know how to create unique sounds and melodies from techniques that I have learnt from this amazing workshop. Definetly recommend this to anyone who is interested in playing the Native American flute. Thank you so much Aiyana"
